Serious truck guys know that the frame is the heart of a truck's capability. A stiffer frame means better ability to isolate suspension, better ride quality, and better handling while towing a heavy load.

For 2017, Ford beefed up the Super Duty's frame from a C-channel to a fully-boxed frame for 24 times the rigidity. The 2017 Super Duty also has larger brakes, an upgraded suspension, and stronger axles and driveline.

All these improvements add weight, however, and the heavier a truck is, the less it can tow and haul. Ford managed to make all these additions while leaving the 2017 Super Duty up to 350 pounds lighter than the previous model-year.

The answer was aluminum.

Just as the Ford F-150 was upgraded to a weight-saving aluminum body for 2015, so too has the Super Duty.
